To be read
Throughout the last year, I have been a frequent user of the social media site 'GoodReads'. This app allows you to log any books you have read. You're also able to write reviews and pick a goal for a reading challenge. I used to read a lot during the summer, so much so that I met my yearly reading goal in only 5 months. But as the summer ended and school began, I suddenly realized that it was September and I haven't read a new book. The last group I finished was 'Final Girls' by Riley Sager and I finished it at the beginning of September. And while looking at my to-be-read list I see what awaits me. Hopefully, this will get me excited to read.
First, we have 'Milk Fed' by Melissa Broder, a new book on the list and a book I have only heard good things about. It follows our main character who was raised to avidly count every calorie she intakes. Our main character's world is shaken up when she meets a worker at a frozen yogurt shop, who captivates her. The next book on the list is 'Just Kids' by Patti Smith. This book retells the relationship between Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe. It is a great coming-of-age story that depicts New York in a way only she can. Following that is the first novel by Donna Tartt, The Secret History. A book in which adults recount the moments that led up to their friend's death years after the occasion. This has been raved on for years by young people alike for being so impactful. I hope I can have the same experience.
Now we move on to the last two on the pile. The REAL final one is' They Both Die At The End '. The book has been sitting at the end since early 2020. And Shadow and Bone, a book that I actually stopped reading. I began reading it because the show was set to come out that April. And as I began reading it I found myself constantly getting lost in all the lore I had to remember. With centuries of information about everything in the "Grishaverse" thrown at your feet. It felt like sink or swim, and I sunk. As a result of that, I have only watched 1 episode. The episode conveniently being about the first hundred pages or so. I really do hope to finish soon!
And as I write this I am looking at the book that was just delivered to my house. 'Bunny' by Mona Awad is the name of the smash 2019 fiction film. The book is said to be "The Secret History Meets Jennifers Body. " Now that I think about it maybe I should ' The Secret History ' Now I really have some thinking to do. This blog post can also be read as a book recommendation from me, maybe we can all start a book club. What are you reading now? Please let me know.
I will have to look into using this app. I am not reading anything right now but would like to find a good book to read. Sounds like a pretty cool way to find good books!
