     Over the weekend I got tickets to go see Olivia Rodrigo in 2022. This was a very exciting experience and honestly, a very lucky one. One of my best friends was sent a presale code on Ticketmaster. Through this, we were able to join the queue and were somehow the first 800 people in line. I know even this sounds like a lot of people, but in just under 5 minutes we were able to pay for tickets. Since we were able to get our tickets so quickly I thought it was that easy for everyone. Seeing that 2 of my friends also got tickets (each to different shows in the tour) also got tickets. We joked about it, saying we "fought and won the war" however we didn't put up much of a fight. This made me think this was a universal thing. 

Until I went on Twitter. 

    Immediately I was met with tweet after tweet from my mutuals, each talking about how they didn't get tickets. Then the more I looked I realized this was a big problem. The situation itself began to trend, and thousands of tweets were sent talking about the problems they had with TicketMaster. This situation reminded me a lot of my experience buying Harry Styles tickets through TicketMaster. I was chosen for presale for his tour, and even had tickets in my cart. Then my code for the presale wouldn't work. And then my tickets were taken from my cart. Leaving us empty-handed. Even though we still got tickets through the general sale that first experience was still awful. 

    Seeing all this only made me realize we have a bigger problem with TicketMaster and large ticket companies. A majority of the tickets were bought by bots and scalpers, with a small number of fans actually getting through. Now the tickets are being sold for hundreds and in some cases thousands of dollars. The lowest price (according to vivid seats) is $600 with the highest being over $2000.  With these scalpers going through great lengths to try and make money off this fanbase of primarily young girls. Although I will be seeing Olivia, I do hope Ticketmaster begins to deal with their scalper and bot problem. And hopefully making the process less stressful and difficult.

       On Friday, November 12, I turned 19 years old. My birthday crept up on me this year, with me not thinking about it until my mom asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday. My favorite book.

      I  have read countless books throughout my 18 years, but it was only this year when I came across the author Taylor Jenkins Reid. She is most notable for writing the smash 2017 book titled 'The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.' Her follow-up 'Daisy Jones & The Six' follows a rock band throughout the 70s through their rise to fame and subsequent breakup on July 12, 1979. The book is written as a transcript, as a journalist decades after their break-up speaks with the members. In an attempt to see what it was like being in the biggest rock band of the 70s. Now when reading this post you might ask yourself " Why have I never heard of this band? " That's the thing, they don't exist. In both books (The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones & The Six) you follow these made-up celebrities, yet they feel so real! Holy Hell Thoughts

The movie I watched this week was Holy Hell (2014) dir. Will Allen. This film was about the time Will Allen spent with a spiritual group called the Buddhafest. I think the scene that caught me off guard was a scene where a member of the group recounts one of the experiences she had. She recalls the months where her father was dying and how the leader of the group Michel Rostand forbid her from seeing her father. She talks about how she would buy her plane ticket to go see him, then she would cry for hours and hours, before ultimately canceling her flight. This scene in particular made me feel just so heartbroken for her. This situation had happened decades before and yet you can see how it still affects her to this day. To the point where she had to stop talking to let herself cry. You can see firsthand how she still feels the guilt of this, years after.
